Pilates

Pilates is a very unique form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates during World War I.  He developed a series of exercises on the mat and on various pieces of equipment that are specially designed to strengthen one’s core, realign the body, and improve balance, muscle tone and flexibility.

pilatesSTOTT Pilates, under the direction of Moira Stott, further refined the original exercises, taking into account modern knowledge of biomechanics and strength research.

Our certified instructors are trained in the STOTT Pilates method and receive additional training in rehabilitation and other specialty areas of Pilates.

Our goal is to develop a program that meets your objective, whether it is increased fitness, strengthening your core, relief from back pain, overcoming an injury, or improved flexibility and balance.

We offer private and semi-private, as well as small group classes.

pilatesPrivate sessions begin with an initial consult and analysis of posture to assess muscle strengths and weakness.  After the initial consult, an individualized program is designed to meet your needs and goals as well as to address any injuries, chronic pain, or physical limitations. Pilates sessions include a combination of mat and equipment training that will advance you towards your fitness goals. 

In semi-private sessions two people will train together. The workout will involve a combination of mat and reformer exercises.

Mat classes are small group sessions of about 5-7 people and are designed to teach the basic principles of Pilates at three different levels, from beginning to intermediate to advanced mat work.  The small class size allows for personal attention and individual workout modifications.
